Kayin’s work centers the importance of Black Lives, Black history/futurity and stories in hopes to inspire, strengthen solidarity, to reimagine a just world where we can breathe, live, succeed, and thrive differently and together.
Kayin is a proud Kittitian born and raised in the twin island federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. His home provided a rich environment for reflection, curiosity and learning. After leaving St.Kitts to pursue his undergraduate and master's degrees in New York, he explored artistic and educational spaces that nurtured and cultivated his talents as a writer, educator, storyteller and choreographer.
Sugar City weaves story telling, movement, media, video and imagery to share the history of the introduction of the sugarcane plant to St.Kitts and its global impacts in the 17th and 18th centuries to the present. The project will share elements of St.Kitts' deep and complex history as one of the first British Colonies and major exporters of sugar.
